Our Mission

The Mission of Camp Claddagh is to offer rest and respite to children from the area affected by the 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear Accident.

Our primary goal is to give children from the affected area a month’s holiday away from their contaminated environment with volunteer host families in the Galway area.

The time spent away from the contaminated area can add up to two years to the children’s life (drops in their radiation levels of 30 – 50% are regularly recorded).

The Camp Claddagh Group is also involved in fundraising for the Chernobyl Children’s Cardiac Programme. The Programme offers children Cardiac treatment including life saving operations to overcome the debilitating effects nuclear radiation has on the heart.

In simple terms ''IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CHILDREN!''

Adi Roche A faxed appeal from doctors caring for the children in Belarus simply read, “SOS appeal. For God’s sake, help us to get the children out.”

Camp Claddagh Outreach group has been specifically formed to join Galway in a practical way to this humanitarian effort. The time spent out of the radioactive zone offers hope to live. All the children have health problems, and most live in contaminated areas and come from needy families.

A trip to an environment offering clean air, water and food has helped add as much as two years healthy living for these children. Your help and support of Camp Claddagh in Galway will ensure that the Chernobyl Children’s project can offer assistance to many more children through such programs.

Camp Claddagh is a full fledged Outreach group of the Chernobyl Children’s Project international. Any support you can give by means of financial or other will go along way to helping these children.

Camp Claddagh is 100% based on voluntary support from its committee and host families, so all funds raised go direct to helping the children. I thank you in advance for any such help you can offer Camp Claddagh .

Thank you.

Yours Sincerely,

Adi Roche
